Other Programs:

Students may petition to participate in program not appearing on the approved list, particularly if they wish to study in countries not represented.  Those interested should consult with faculty in the Asian Studies programs and especially with the Study Abroad Office, WCC 204, for assistance in locating quality offerings to match students academic needs.  The director of study abroad will explain the process for gaining special approval to go on such a program.  The student must have faculty support for the chosen program and must prepare a strong rationale for the exception.  Nevertheless, student should consider this option.

Scholarship Program for Study abroad in Asia

Opportunities After Graduation:

Students may pursue language and cultural immersion in a variety of ways in various parts of Asia.  Some join the Peace Corps., others take jobs in international or multinational corporations, and many teach abroad.

One of the most popular programs for Austin College graduates is the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET).  The JET program recruits hundreds of college graduates from around the world to teach their native language and culture in Japan.  To find out more visit www.jetprogramme.com or contact Study Abroad.

Students may also work out ISOCs for study in Asia and should contact the ISOC director in the Adams Center.  To learn about possible funding from the Lilly program, also see the grant director in the Adams Center.
