Artists Statement |
Art is about communication. It is the communication of ideas through a medium, whether that be photography, painting, sculpture or something else entirely. Every piece of art boils down to transferring the Artist to the audience. It, perhaps more than any other means of communication, demonstrates the inherent miscommunication that results from two separate social creatures trying to find common understanding. I use mainly collage to annunciate this failing, the miscommunication of ideas and the social inability to see within another's mind is replicated by stealing away different pictures from their all-important contexts and artificially shoving them all together. Collage also forces the viewer to look past the text on the pages This is a simple facet of art, because every person is different, no two people will come to the exact same conclusion from the same painting. Many of these pieces, like Astrolonomy and Georgia Immolatus tells stories through their composition. Others are juxtaposed against one another, like Speech Imbedded and Language Independent All of them they represent different aspects of communication and the eventual reconciling between people. Ultimately, art and all other forms of communication end with a beneficial or detrimental misunderstanding. Since its impossible to convey the entirety of my experience through art, it is up to the viewer to construe meaning behind the pieces on show today. We may only hope that the misunderstanding is beneficial. |
