Title in wooden letters & artist statment

Eden
A collection of acrylic paintings by Peyton Ellis

The title, Eden, encompasses the concept of life on all levels from the flowers and streams to the oceans. From the beginning, religious or otherwise, it symbolizes the start of nature's wonders and a feeling of tranquility and chaos working in tandem to create the world we see around us. This not only symbolizes our existence but the creation of these paintings.

The making of these paintings stems from my travels growing up. I was always outside, be that in the mountains, at the beach, or the city exploring. I was constantly taking in nature in every form I could find it. I love the intricate textures of the elements that make up the views I was seeing. These paintings pull not only from the colors you see in nature but the feelings that go along with being in nature.

As those who know me can attest, I am not one to follow instructions, nor do my final pieces resemble their starting points. My chaotic art style, while not always forgiving, allows for constantly evolving ideas of what my pieces should look like. This mirrors the destructive and unforgiving nature of the world, and how mishaps can reshape the concept of a painting just as a fire gives way to new growth in a field. Whether through pouring acrylic on the canvas to create abstract shapes or stacking layer after layer of color on top of one another, I always like the freedom in the movement of abstract painting and how it allows the viewer to make their interpretation of the piece.

These pieces come together to create a space that pulls from all the wonders of nature. Their story, while rooted in color, plays on the memories and feelings we make throughout our lifetimes.
