Welcome
For my exhibition, I wanted to focus my work on the mythical aspects of life. I wanted to create works that made you think of what you were looking at I wanted to put a spin on most of my works where each one would be based on different myths. One of my goals for my works is to make the viewers question what they are looking at and to try to put together the identity of what myths they are. This is true for most of my works, except for photos I took in Japan. Those are already rich with their own culture, and I felt that they worked as they were.
For my sculptures, I made them by using the program Blender and had them printed on a 3d printer. The main goal of doing so is to allow for a more detailed and stable sculpture. These sculptures are each based on a myth, and I made it so that anyone could tell what they were if they had heard about them. For three of the photos framed, I did something similar. The main difference was that they may take people more time to figure out since they are less direct with how I represent the myth on which they are based. For these prints, I used a program called Gimp to edit some photos I took. For the last prints I made, I used photos I took in Japan and only edited some of the values in order to make some colors pop out. I felt that the photos did a well enough job on their own and did not need to be edited any more than I did.
My main inspiration for my work has been my interest in mythologies. It started with watching films and shows revolving around Greek mythology. From there I learned more about other myths from other countries. I especially liked learning about the myths from Japan, which is why in my travel to Japan, I was inspired by all the Shrines and temples I had visited. In many of these temples, they displayed statues of historical figures, creatures, and gods. Additionally, all my works encompass every art class I have taken while at Austin College. I have taken Sculpture, Digital Imaging, and Photography, so I wanted to try to make a variety of works to represent my experience at Austin College.
