Wandering Eyes Zandi Morgan Eyes are an intimate thing -- by appearance alone they offer a deep look into the soul. Wandering eyes are typically associated with lovers that have grown unhappy or bored, but in my mind they're far more than that. They're a window into one's psyche, which can be as jolting as it is uncertain upon first glance. Wandering Eyes should evoke the feeling of paranoia that follows those with an anxiety disorder in every aspect of their lives. I have long been passionate about creating meaningful pieces and sending messages through my art. In this case in particular, I've been inspired by horror artists capable of evoking a palpable sense of unease through their pieces. Manga artist Junji Ito uses fine lines and violent detailing to weave viewers into his stories. The surrealistic elements of his panels heavily inspired the evident distortion of the human body in my pieces. Much like him, the story my pieces tell lies mostly in its individual interpretation. The visceral response it evokes is exactly how it was meant to be perceived, nothing more, nothing less. My artistic process was largely guided by emotion. I used ink, ballpoint pens, pencils whatever was at hand. I used different textures and shapes because I wanted the pieces to be both visually interesting and unsettling. I hope I was successful in making you uncomfortable, hut hope you found some beauty in it as well. |
