Abbey Rennaker Artist Statement

The focus of my work is the natural world. Most of my pieces are landscapes, inspired by places I have been. Every piece is based on a reference photo I have taken on my travels. This connects my personal experiences to the paintings themselves. I take artistic inspiration from romantic and impressionist painters and the atmosphere of their works. Botticelli's Primavera gives the viewer a glance into an idyllic landscape, and Monets' Waterlilies bring the viewer an uncanny feeling of peace. The sky is often the aspect of the work that most poignantly captures the mood of the place. Because of this, skies play an important role in the creation of strokes, strong lines, and bold details to accomplish this. By enhancing the images, I bring a sense of wonder from the outside world into the gallery.
