Jan Term

Austin College offers a unique learning experience during January; the January Term, or JanTerm. The Department of Art offers several JanTerm courses per year.

Pantheon Luncheon

Over 50% of Austin College students will travel abroad for some time during their studies at AC. The Department of Art and Art Histories aims to include art majors within this uncommonly high group. During JanTerm 2001, Students travelled to Italy for their Heritage 44 credit. There they studied not only the history and sociological events of the past, but the art and architecture as well.

Cathedral

JanTerm also gives art students the opportunity to visit Ghost Ranch. Ghost Ranch is located in the New Mexican desert, and puts the aspiring artist wthin a community of other artists from other schools. Classes range from ceramics and weaving to silversmithing.

Pecos River Pictograph

More than anything else, JanTerm is designed to be a time of growth and focus for students. Those wanting to take classes outside of their major are encouraged to do so, and those wanting a month of private studio time are also well accomodated.
