Week #3

Review and critique black/white compositions.
This critique will be led by the class and you will be responsible for the vocabulary of form. After this exercise you will be allowed to rework your composition.

Homework: Rework your composition, taking into account the feedback you recieved during critique.

We will begin to discuss linear perspective and the illusion of three-dimensional shapes. Work on drawing skills with emphasis on the illusionistic properties of two-dimensional shapes. Continue work with composing an aesthetically pleasing arrangement of shapes (a picture).
In class draw still life. Start with defining the basic shapes and setting them in 2-D space. Lightly sketch in the contour lines of the still life. Pay special attention to planes receding into space and proportional relationships between the objects. By end of class period you should have a good representational image of the basic shapes of the still life.

Homework- Continue working on still life and make this as finished a composition as you can. Add in value to define the the volume and shapes of the objects. The still life will remain in place in the room until Monday morning.
