Mark Stephen Smith is currently an Associate Professor at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He received his MFA from Queens College of the City of University of New York while he obtained his BFA from Kansas City Art Institute.

Mark's most recent work was inspired by the images of ancient Buddhist art from Asia.  He became influenced by Buddhist images that displayed states of wonderment, optimism, and tranquility.  His paintings incorporate these ideals with the use of colors, shapes, and patterns.  He expects the art to give a combined sense of surprise, renewal, and comfort to the open mind.
