Austin College Biology Summer Research Program

The Biology Department invites applications for

Summer Research Stipends

Eligibility -- A.C. biology students -- No previous research experience required.

Deadline for applications -- February 18

Notification of awards -- March 14

Stipend -- $2700 plus 1/2 the cost of AC student housing

Expectations of stipend recipients

• Enthusiasm for original research 

• 8 to 10 weeks in residence (typically June 1 - July 31) 

• At least 40 hours per week 

• A willingness to adapt your schedule to the needs of the research project 

• No concurrent jobs or summer courses 

• A presentation to the Biology Department during the subsequent Fall semester 

Application procedure

1. Go to presentation by AC faculty on potential research projects 

Thursday,  November 29th at 4:30 pm in Moody Science 302

2. Consult with your prospective faculty sponsor(s) (see list below) regarding potential projects. 

These discussions should occur as soon as possible

3. Submit the your application to Dr. Kelly Reed (Department Chair): 

Application available from Biology faculty or from the Application Page.

Selection procedure

Successful candidates will be selected based on 1) Quality of application statement (and any other written material requested by your proposed sponsor); 2) Courses taken; 3) Austin College record; and 4) Available research positions with faculty members.
