SIERRA FOOTHILL ECOSYSTEM MODEL
Abiotic Environment: The soil of the Sierra Nevada Foothills is
mostly derived from granite. There are also pockets of serpentine and clay.
The topography is rising elevation with steep river valleys running east
to west. It is a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool
winters. Percipitation falls mostly as rain in the winter and spring, but
there is occasional snow accumulation.
