Research in chemistry
is supported externally and internally through several resources.
Support from the
Welch
Foundation is the most prominent external support. The
chemistry department has received a departmental Welch Grant for
nearly twenty years. Over that period, the grant has supported summer
research for many faculty and dozens of students, through stipends and
purchase of equipment, supplies and instruments.
In 1986, the
department benefited from the generosity of Marian Cox, an alumna of
the chemistry department, who left a significant bequest whose sole
purpose is to enhance the chemistry program. The Cox Fund supported
everything from the purchase of supplies, equipment and instruments to
providing refreshments before chemistry seminars and working lunches
for summer researchers.
A Priddy grant is
also available to support research in chemistry. Faculty scholarly
activities are supported from the college’s Richardson fund. Honors
work in chemistry has been supported by funds from the college’s
Honors Program to purchase supplies and to support travel for student
presentation at national conferences. |
