Currently Associate Professor of German, she completed graduate
studies in Latin and in History at the Westfälische
Wilhelms-University in Münster,
Germany, and received a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages from UCLA. In her dissertation she discussed Goethe's
figurative language of the French Revolution (later published with Carl
Winter Universitätsverlag).
Before joining Austin College, Ruth Cape taught German language and
literature classes at UCLA and Pepperdine
University, California. She was also Assistant Professor of German at the
College of St. Benedict/St. John's
University,
She loves learning foreign languages. Besides road trips, photography,

Translation: The
Last Monk of Tibhirine. A True Story of Martyrdom,
Faith, and Survival (Paraclete Press, 2013). Co-Translator
(into English) of the German book Der letzte Mönch von Tibhirine by Freddy Derwahl

2012). The
book centers on the monastery of Tibhirine, where
nine Trappist monks lived in harmony with the largely Muslim population of
Algeria, a former French colony in North Africa, until seven of them were
kidnapped and assassinated in 1996 during the civil war in Algeria. The
