CALL FOR PAPERS
Economics Scholars Program
Friday, March 27th 2009.
Austin College and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas are pleased to announce the 2009 Economics Scholars Program. The ESP is a one-day forum designed to be a showcase for undergraduate economic research and an opportunity for undergraduates to receive valuable feedback on their research from faculty and peers. Undergraduate students at all levels are invited to discuss their independent and faculty co-sponsored work in any area associated with economics. Papers and discussants in the fields of applied economics, econometrics, history, or pedagogy are welcome. Undergraduates are welcome to submit abstracts from now until February 27th, 2009. We are requesting that all students have a faculty sponsor recommend them, and faculty sponsors are encouraged, but not required to attend. Undergraduate students from all geographic areas are welcome.
There is no registration fee for presenters, discussants, session chairs, and general audience members. The conference will take place on Friday, March 27,2009 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Lunch and free parking will be provided thanks to the generosity of the Dallas Fed; however, all students and faculty sponsors are responsible for all travel costs. A special conference rate is available for Thursday March 26th and Friday March 27th, 2009 at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites.
PAPER SELECTION PROCESS: The goal of the ESP is to both provide an outlet for high quality undergraduate research and to encourage more students to engage in undergraduate research. With this in mind, papers are selected based on evidence that they are the type of quality expected from undergraduate research journals or mainstream economics journals and will be selected by a peer review panel consisting of former presenters, discussants, and a faculty advisor. In the event that the panel believes that the project is promising, but not quite to a point ready for the discussant review process, students may be invited to participate in a poster session. To get an idea of the criteria used for selection, please see the FAQ about the conference below.
