Jeff Czajkowksi

Dr. Czajkowski’s primary research field is environmental and natural resource economics,
divided between two distinct yet interrelated environmental economic strands: 1) the economic
valuation of environmental goods and services; and 2) economic decision making in the presence
of an environmental disaster, i.e., hurricanes. He holds an additional title as an Adjunct Assistant Research Professor at Florida International University’s International Hurricane Research Center. His teaching responsibilities include
environmental economics, urban economics, public finance, international trade, and principles of economics.
Melanie Fox Kean

Dr. Kean’s primary research interests are in development economics, primarily in health
and education at the interaction of these at the household level. Additionally, her secondary
research interests include the pedagogy of economics and economic growth, and her articles
have appeared in the American Economic Review and Economics and Human Biology.
Her teaching interests include economic development, health economics, and labor economics.
Danny Nuckols
Ph.D., University of Texas at Dallas
Dr. Nuckols’ research interest involves the intersection of economics and the humanities,
economic history and methodology, and the political economy of organic farming. Additionally,
he has consulted in the area of patent litigation. His current teaching responsibilities include
microeconomics, history of economic thought, law & economics, and economic history.
Kevin M. Simmons, Chair
Ph.D., Texas Tech University

Dr. Simmons’ research interests involve the economics of natural hazards. His articles are
widely cited and have appeared in journals from a variety of academic disciplines including
engineering, sociology, law, meteorology as well as economics. Funding for his research agenda
has come from the insurance industry, NOAA, NIST and the National Science Foundation.
