The Major in English

The past decade has wrought tremendous changes in the discipline of English:  now more than ever, “English” is taught as one among many world literatures; it is often linked with other areas of the humanities, including art, film, and popular culture.  We at Austin College are excited about the new possibilities that these changes offer us.  We hope you will enjoy exploring them with us, whether you decide to do so as a non-major, as a major, or as someone looking to make a lifelong career in English.  These pages have information about majoring and minoring in English, recommendations and ideas for careers for English majors, and information for those considering graduate schools in English or the humanities more generally.
