HWC 301, Janterm 2006
Empire has constituted a pivotal theme in the history of Western culture. This travel course, along with its fall shortcourse component, will be an extended look at a variety of imperial capitals and the cultures they produced. We will be traveling to Rome, Vienna, and Istanbul along with some other stops to investigate the remains and memories of these empires in art, architecture, museums, and other historical sites. This is will be an intensive Heritage course, in which attempt, quite seriously, to come to terms with the heritage of Western culture.
