Tooley's "Academic Travel" Travel Links Page
Follow any of the links below to get started becoming a more informed
traveler.
Suggestions for this page are welcome: I am always looking for
useful
and unusual sites.
(This link is under revision--Back Soon) Karen
Tooley's Primer on Money for Traveling in Europe Karen--yes,
we are related!--has made many trips to Europe over the years and has
managed
a lot of different currencies and transactions. And she knows how
to spend the money once she gets it, too!
International
Currency
Converter Western Europe is mostly on the Euro now,
which
is worth about a US dollar. But you still need to convert to British
pounds
stirling and to the currencies of all non-Union countries. Those
on AOL will find an excellent converter using the keyword "currency
converter,"
but the one given here is excellent.
Rick Steves's
Europe
Through the Back Door Rick Steves has great, if
sometimes
unorthodox, travel advice for those who don't want the usual packaged
tourist
information. This site helps make you a more informed traveler.
French Travel
Gallery
Beaucoups de links about France. Check out the regions, the food,
and whatever else you want.
Rough
Guides
This is the website of the famous alternative and student travel
guides.
The site doesn't give you everything you might get if you go to a
bookstore
and get the Rough Guide to whatever, but it is searchable and has some
good quick info for principle places in Europe.
About.com
For quick information on about various countries or about traveling in
them.
Via
Michelin This is great distance finder/map site which covers
Europe in great detail, by the famous Michelin folks who make both the
tourist guidebooks and very good tires on which to drive to these
places.
Finally, there are so many travel links on the Web
that
it is easy to get confused. A good way to start searching for
some
travel subject you want to know about is to go to www.about.com,
which has human editors for thousands of categories, such Travel:
Germany. You can go to the site and do a quick search with some
assurance
that the editor has checked the given links out. This is very
handy.
