Assignment
You are to analyze one of the five movies we will have seen before the editing draft is due (Mysterious Object at Noon, The Year of Living Dangerously, The Killing Fields, The Scent of Green Papaya, or 6ixtynin9). You must evaluate the movie as a depiction of Souhteast Asian culture or history while examining three of the seven elements listed on the handout I gave you in class. How effective was the film at showing elements of life in Southeast Asia while telling its story?  How well was the film made? This is a film analysis, not a review intended for a newspaper. That means you can tell the end of the film.  It also means that you should maintain a formal tone, and assume that your reader has already seen the film.  Your focus should be on how the film reflects Southeast Asian history and culture.  Use the analytical review of E.T. from the handout for ideas on how to approach the assignment. The E.T. review discusses theme and characterization as well as emotional impact, but you may choose other elements. Don't just give me four stars or two thumbs up. These do not belong in an analytical review. Find creative ways to organize your essay so that it does not just sound like you are going down a list of elements to discuss.  Be sure to mention the movie title in the first paragraph and underline it.

Forbidden Things
 You may not use:
Contractions, jargon, plagiarized movie reviews (I have read them all), slang, "I" or
"The author of this paper" anywhere in your essay

You may not put extra space between each paragraph to stretch the length.

You may not start the first page half way down the paper unless you have more than two full pages of text.

You may not have huge margins at the bottom of your pages.
