OUT OF CLASS PARTICIPATION ASSIGNMENT

In a never-ending effort to orient you to the possibilities of entertainment in all its varieties at Austin College and in the community, I have set aside a required series of out of class activities as part of your C/I grade. These are as follows:

1. Attend one sporting event at AC (If you are on a team you must attend a different event)

2. Attend one theater production or other cultural event at AC.

3. Successfully hook up to your e-mail account and voice mail, and exchange messages with me.

4. Attend a meeting of one student organization of your choice. Sponsored events (like parties) do not count.

5. Attend one special lecture presentation outside of a class (convocation speaker for example)

With the exception of number 3, which you will prove by exchanging messages with me, you will write 1-2 page handwritten reaction papers for each of the other events. In these reaction papers (which must be at least ONE FULL PAGE IN LENGTH) you may tell us about the activity, your impressions of it, other people who were there, the atmosphere, and the impact, if any, that the event had upon you. You may use these essays to explore your creative writing or to practice the 5pt essay format we discuss in class.  You will turn in these papers to your designated C/I Leader. Together these will count as 10% of your grade for the semester.

Here is a little more information on  student organizations as well as a link to the master calendar of campus events:

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
At the fall semester Activities Fair on Thursday, September 6th you will have ample opportunity to find out about a variety of student groups on campus. You can also get the information from Student Affairs on the second floor of the WCC, where they usually have a complete calendar of events for the week.

Link to Master Calendar lists events by category such as lectures, sports, art and music events, theater productions etc.
