Actual Lesson

Introduction: Provide students with general knowledge of Erasmo and Juan’s life and military career.
Time needed:
10-15 Minutes

Learner-centered Strategies/Activities: Divide students into teams for quiz bowl game. Have students answer questions such as the following. (Question can be prepared in advance by teacher and placed onto index cards.)

  1. When was Erasmo born? May 26, 1782
  2. Who was the oldest son of Erasmo? Juan Seguin
  3. What was one of Erasmo’s jobs/careers? Post master, military, alcalde, etc.
  4. Name a battle that Juan Seguin participated in? Battle of San Jacinto
  5. Who did Juan Seguin fight against in the battle of San Jacinto? Antonio Lopes de Santa Anna
  6. Why did Juan Seguin survive the attack on the Alamo? He was sent out as a courier
  7. 7. What was Juan Seguin’s role in the Texas Army? Scouting and supply operations
  8. True or False: Juan Seguin organized the only Tejano unit to fight the battle of San Jacinto? True
  9. Which congresses did Seguin serve as a Texas Senator? Second- Forth
