The Center for the Study of the Southwest at Texas State University-San Marcos engages faculty and students in the richness and diversity of the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico and gives focus to intercultural studies through examining the region's people, institutions, history, and physical and cultural ecology. We are a partner of the Southwest Regional Humanities Center.
The Spring
2007 issue of
Southwestern American Literature features articles on the
works of Terry Tempest Williams, Edwin Lanham, Annie Proulx, and Larry
McMurtry, as well as a creative nonfiction piece by Joel Minor. The
issue also contains poetry by Ysabel de la Rosa, Jeffrey C. Alfier,
Keith Ekiss, and Nick Norwood. As usual, we also offer a variety of
book reviews: new works by Jim Kimmel, Michael L. Johnson, Dick
Holland, Larry L. King, collections on John Graves and Texas Mexican
Literature, and much more.

Books in ReviewThe Spring 2007 issue of Texas Books in Review begins with a listing of the Texas Institute of Letters' annual awards and ends with reviews of works by some of the state's most recognized writers. The issue features reviews of books by Cormac McCarthy, Larry McMurtry, two books by Patrick Dearen, two photo collections by Laurence Parent, and books about Texas Mexican literature, political memorabilia, murder, courthouses, history, and new poetry and fiction.
The Southwest
Regional Humanities Center is pleased to offer Sensing Dobie's
Shade: The Al Lowman Collection of J. Frank Dobie Publications in the
Southwestern Writers Collection at Texas State University-San Marcos,
published in a limited edition of 100 copies by David Holman at Wind
River Press in Austin. Copies are available for purchase through the
Center.
