campusMax Groberlayers There have been teachers of History at Austin College since the college opened its doors over a hundred and fifty years ago.  Today's department of five full-time faculty members is home to both the State Historian of Texas (Light Cummins) and a winner of the 2010 T. R. Fehrenbach Book Prize (Jacqueline Moore).

studentslight cummins Our students become historians, attorneys, school teachers, entrepreneurs, salespersons, physicians, officials, journalists, ministers, writers, city planners, and active participants in all kinds of history-related work.  We teach History as a way of understanding the world, as the basis for learning over a whole lifetime.
