ESS 100: SCUBA Diving and Aerobic Conditioning
Location: The island of Cozumel is located 12 miles east of the northern part of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and is Mexico's largest island, measuring 30 miles in length and 10 miles in width. The temperature in Cozumel ranges from 70 degrees Fahrenheit in mid-winter to the lower 90's in the summer. Languages spoken in Cozumel are Spanish and English; currencies accepted are the Mexican peso and the American dollar (and most major credit cards). Required proof of citizenship for Americans visiting Cozumel is satisfied with a valid passport. Accommodations for all course participants will be at the SCUBA Club Cozumel, located one-half mile from San Miguel. Enrollment: Registration is limited

Duhaime, Craig Hall 111, ext. 2464General Information and Attendance Policy The course will provide the opportunity to become certified in Basic Open Water SCUBA as well as to improve cardiovascular conditioning through a structured program of daily swimming exercises. Class will meet daily: 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Hannah Natatorium Attendance at all class meetings is mandatory, with any absences requiring immediate make-up classroom and pool work. Texts SCUBA Diving, 3rd ed. Grading Satisfactory completion of the course will be based on written exams, a research paper, progress in aerobic conditioning, water skills tests (which must be passed for certification), and the open-water certification tests required by YMCA. The course is offered on the S/U grading system only.
Honor System All written material required during the course, including exams and the research paper, is assumed to be original work by the individual student who signs the work. All references to source material must be cited. Trip Information Exact departure and return times must be reconfirmed the day before departure. The planned itinerary is as follows: Plan to be at DFW Airport at least 2 hours before departure time with a valid passport.
