SSO Rehearsals Kidd-Key Auditorium

                                                                    (directions are HERE)

Schedule 2020 - 2021

As you all know we aren’t having regular rehearsals this season and while the pandemic is ongoing.

But we will be creating concerts and recitals from music SSO members perform and we record.  Here's what to do:

  1. 1If you are interested in recording solo or chamber music for any concert this season, we want to know that.

  2. 2We are looking for chamber works that include SSO members.  This can be any combination of instruments that you are willing to organize and rehearse.  Trios, quartets, etc. with piano, without piano, winds, strings, whatever.  These can also be solo and could be pieces you already have in your repertoire or new pieces that you've wanted to have a reason to learn and perform.

  3. 3We will use October 24 (our first scheduled concert date) to record your performances on-stage at Kidd-Key and in regular concert attire.  There will be a schedule so that we can keep things as safe as possible.  We will also provide Friday night, October 23, for rehearsal on the stage for those who would like a chance to try their pieces ahead of time in Kidd-Key.

  4. 4Not required but certainly requested, we would love to have someone in each ensemble say a few words about the piece (1 minute or so).  And each member should say hello and their name and how long they've been playing in the SSO.

  5. 5All recording players will receive a stipend.  This is a little tricky--we are a volunteer-based orchestra with great players who deserve professional compensation.  But we aren't able to do that in normal seasons and especially not this year, without ticket sales and with a difficult fund raising climate.  We will do our best to honor your talent and time and travel in this way.

We will do this same thing for December (holiday and Christmas related, mostly), February, and April, so if you're not sure you'll be ready by October, please plan to participate when you can.

We will make virtual concerts the same way we make our TV broadcasts now: once we have the recordings, we'll put together a concert that seems to make sense and go together, add an introduction and the sponsor information, and add your comments about the pieces for the audience.  We'll save anything not used for another concert or for individual release as a "recital."  We hope to space the "concerts" and the "recitals" so that there is somewhat regular/monthly material coming from the SSO this season.

We want to keep our audience, our sponsors, and YOU involved this year.

We FULLY intend to be ready to get back to work ALL TOGETHER next season and we'll need each of those three parts fully engaged.

AUDITIONS

Please contact Daniel Dominick (ddominick@austincollege.edu) for more information and to schedule an audition.  We fill positions as they become available, so please feel free to contact us throughout the year.  Please note our rehearsal schedule above.  Our repertoire for this season is available on the Tickets/Season page.
