Sidney Lumet's "12 Angry Men" is a marvelous
example of the kind of leadership we would all like to develop. Filmed almost
entirely in a jury room, it follows the deliberations of twelve jurors as they discuss the
fate of a young boy accused of murder. Though initially outvoted 11-1 by his fellow
jurors, the Architect (portrayed by Henry Fonda) uses a wide variety of approaches to
convince the others to change their votes. Pay particular attention to the subtlety
of his style(s) -- at times he is argumentative and confrontational, but more often than
not he leads by allowing others to change their own minds. You'll want to see the movie
several times to appreciate its power and insight.
