My revered teacher Peter G. Bergmann passed away in October, 2002. He was the first recipient (with John Wheeler) of the Einstein Prize awarded by the American Physical Society in April, 2003. His obituary published in the New York Times on October 23, 2002 is available here. A Memorial Symposium was held in his honor at Syracuse University on October 11-12, 2003.
