Frequently
Asked Questions and
Topics About Study Abroad
-
It’s too expensive!!!
The cost of many
study abroad programs is simply your Austin College tuition. Some programs
may be slightly more.
What
if I’m on financial aid?
All your financial aid goes with you when you study
abroad. Special scholarships, both from Austin College and outside sources, are
available for summer, semester, and year-long study.
Will the credits
transfer?
Yes! Credits you earn on
any Austin College approved program will appear on your transcript just as if
you took them at Austin College. The grades also become part of your transcript.
There are certain
classes I need to take for my major/pre-med requirements. Can I fulfill those
requirements and study abroad?
Yes. Work with your
mentor and the department chair to discuss specific
courses offered abroad and use them to fulfill Austin College requirements.
Can pre-med students and
science majors study abroad?
Yes. You can plan out your coursework with your advisor and and schedule
one semester in your junior or senior year to study abroad. This opportunity is
available for all Austin College students
What if my
language skills are not that great?
Many students
underestimate their abilities in foreign languages, or think they must be fluent
in order to study abroad. However, fluency is not required. Moreover,
there are many English-speaking programs in countries around the world.
My parents are worried
about my safety. What happens if there is a war?
Austin College will not
send you into hostile territory. If a program or Austin College believes that at
any time students are in danger, they will be removed from harm’s way and placed
in a safe environment.
