Robert W. Cape, Jr., Professor of Classics

Bob Cape received a B.A. in Latin and M.A. in History from the University of Arizona, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Classics from UCLA. He teaches Latin, Greek, and ancient history, with special interests in Latin prose, rhetoric, women in antiquity, and Roman social and intellectual history. He also teaches regularly in the core curriculum, Heritage of Western Culture, and conducts classes in Rome in the January term. Dr. Cape has published many reviews and articles on Roman historiography, rhetoric, Greek and Roman women, ancient slavery, and Cicero. He is currently finishing an edition of Cicero's Orations Against Catiline and a book on oratory and Roman society. He has been recognized for outstanding teaching and research by Austin College and has received awards for teaching from the American Philological Association and for research from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
