H-Net:  Humanities and Social Sciences Online  Outstanding set of resources for the study of History, including the great H-Net list of listserv discussion groups.

The Avalon Project at Yale Law School    This resource provides primary documents for an enormous variety of issues in modern European and world history.  The site is searchable.  It is the place to start, especially for official documents, treaties, and much more.

The Online Library of Liberty   This is a super site with texts on economics, political philosophy, and contemporary issues, all in several forms.  This is perhaps the most accessible etext site on the web.  Check it out for complete works of over four hundred authors who have something to say about liberty, from the ancient world to the present.  The list of authors begins pretty much, alphabetically, with Lord Acton, John Adams, Aeschylus... and goes on from there.

Eurodocs:  Primary Historical Documents from Western Europe  A great site.

International Institute of Social History  Much unusual and useful historical material.

School of Slavonic and East European Studies

Hanover European History Texts and Documents   Very useful selection of texts and links.

Maps of Europe--UT-PCL   Actual maps of actual places are to be found here; from the University of Texas.

Map History-History of Cartography   A gateway to studies of early maps and cartography.

Encyclopedia of Revolutions of 1848This very large on-line reference source is an excellent resource on many topics related to Europe in the middle of the nineteenth century.  The editor, Professor James Chastain, has done an excellent job collecting these thoughtful and careful entries.  Worth your perusal!

The Cold War International History Project.  A project of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, this large and informative site catalogs new research materials in addition to housing articles, pertinent news, and many other items.  The site is fully searchable.  It is a real fund of primary documents, particularly from the Communist world,  relating to the period 1945 to 1991.

The Harvard Project on Cold War Studies.  An excellent site with enormous resources, including documents, recent articles, and much more.

Links Related to Recent Military History

An excellent way to explore World War II  websites is to start with the Open Directory Project and search for World War or World War II.  The resulting search will give you well-chosen sites for most categories, although are not filled out yet.  It is a good way to start.  Open Directory, generically, is www.dmoz.org.  The specific page for the World War II search is:
